What time is your worship service and Sunday School?
Sunday School classes meet at 9:30. Our adult Sunday school class meets in the community room each Sunday. Currently, we do not have children's Sunday school classes. However, we would be glad to work with parents to find appropriate resources to guide their children's faith formation at home.
We worship each Sunday morning at 11 am. You may participate in worship in person or on Facebook Live.
Where do I go?
When you arrive for worship, you are invited to enter either through the sanctuary doors that face Lamar Street. To access our handicap ramp and parking, you are invited to park in the parking lot on oak street, across from Biscuitville. To access the handicap ramp, please proceed up the sidewalk that runs parallel to Oak street toward Lamar street. When you enter the sanctuary, the ushers will great you and hand you a bulletin, or order of service. Once you enter the sanctuary, you are invited to sit in an area of the sanctuary that feels comfortable to you. If you are joining us for Sunday school, we invite you to park in the oak street lot, or the gravel lot at the corner of Oak and Lamar streets. You are then invited to enter the community room at the backside of the building.
Where do my children go?
We invite you to bring your children for worship each week. It is an important part of a child's faith development to participate in worship. All children are invited to be with us during worship. If you feel your child is not ready to be part of the entire worship service yet, you are invited to take your child to the church nursery following the prayer of confession and assurance of pardon. At this time, our nursery is not staffed. However, you are welcome to join your child in the nursery. You are also welcome to take your children out to our playground if you feel they need to burn off some energy. We want all caregivers and children to be comfortable in the worship service. If there is anything we can do to make you or your child's experience better, please let us know.
What is worship like?
At Roxboro Presbyterian, our worship follows a flow of gathering, the Word, and sending. Our worship is liturgical, which means that the first parts of the worship service, which includes a call to worship, prayer of confession, and assurance of pardon, are done in a call and response manner. Following this part of the service, two passages of Scripture will be read, which will be followed by the sermon. The sermon generally lasts about 15-18 minutes. Our choir provides musical responses and an anthem performance during the worship service. If you’re curious about what our worship is like, you can watch past services on our Facebook page. After the sermon, the prayers of the people will be offered, an offering will be taken, and a charge and benediction will be used to send worshipers out into the world. Our worship service usually lasts about an hour. We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month. We as Presbyterians practice open communion, which means anyone professing faith in Jesus Christ is welcome to take communion. We have gluten free crackers available, and everyone, regardless of age or understanding of communion, is welcome to participate in the Lord's Supper.
Do I have to give something for the offering?
We believe that the offering is a joyful response to God’s grace. We therefore believe the offering should be given in joy. If that is not where you are on your journey, then you are certainly not required to donate when the offering plate is being passed. You may also be wondering, where does the money go? The weekly offering supports the mission and ministry of Roxboro Presbyterian, which means that sometimes the money collected is used to pay the electric bill or buy Sunday school materials. Other times it is used to support the work of the church in the community.
What should I wear?
When you come to worship at Roxboro Presbyterian, you are invited to wear what feels comfortable to you. In that respect, we encourage you to refrain from thinking, "I don't have any church clothes to wear." For us, whatever you wear to church are your church clothes.
How do I get involved?
We have many wonderful ministries at Roxboro Presbyterian. If you would like to know what is happening at this season of our church's life, and how you might become involved, you are invited to consult the "Opportunities for Ministry" insert in your bulletin. You may also email our pastor, Rev. Dr. Matt Bowman.
