We are collecting hard surface suitcases until August to be painted in collaboration with Anne Bettendorf’s art students at Roxboro Community School. Suitcases will be cleaned and delivered to RCS. Upon completion, they will be taken to Social Services or Safe Haven to be given to children being displaced from their homes who may not have suitcases for their belongings.
Since 1992, the Presbyterian Women's Birthday Offering has helped fund mission projects that improve lives. This year's Birthday Offering recipients are the following: Disaster Response Team (Presbytery of Charlotte, NC), Effingham Child Development Center (Illinois), Presbyterian Homes and Services of Kentucky, INC., and Wings of Refuge (Iowa). PW Offering envelopes will be in the pews for your use in contributing to these worthy causes.
Roxboro Presbyterian will have a covered-dish luncheon after church on May 5th to celebrate the PW Birthday
Offering. Please bring your favorite dishes and join together as we focus on our PW ministry and the opportunities we have to help others with designated projects. See Delories Sherman or Carolyn Woodall if you have questions.
Advent Poinsettias: The Worship Committee will once again be decorating the Sanctuary with poinsettias for Advent and Christmas. Congregation members are invited to sponsor a poinsettia in honor of or in memory of a friend or loved one, whose name will be listed in our bulletin. More information is available on the insert in today’s bulletin. Poinsettias are $6 each. We ask that you mark your payment “Poinsettias” when you place it in the offering plate.
Opportunities for giving:
Bingo Prizes: The Presbyterian Women are collecting items that can be used as BINGO prizes the next time we visit
the Maples Height Rest Home. Suggestions include: stuffed animals, jewelry, body wash, fragrance for men, and
sugarless chewing gum. A container will be in the Narthex for anything you can donate. Please contact Alice Boyette for
Christian Help Center Food Drive: We will have our blessing of the food items Today and everything will be
transported to the Christian Help Center next week.
As a reminder, on Sunday, August 19th, we will celebrate the start of the new school year with a “Blessing of the Backpacks” during worship. All students and educators from preschool through college are invited to bring their school bags to have them blessed. We would like to include friends and family in this blessing, as we give thanks for our schools, our teachers, and our opportunities to learn and grow. So if you know of students, teachers, principals, or anyone in education please invite them to join us!
Also, to help students start off the school year with everything they need, we will be collecting school supplies. We will bless the supplies on August 19th, when we have our “Blessing of the Backpacks,” but we will be collecting items between now and the last Sunday in August. Everything donated will be given to South Elementary school, where the children from our “Three Neighbors” attend. Suggested items include:
Five youth and six adults from Roxboro Presbyterian Church joined Asheville Youth Mission to serve the community, learn from one another, and agree that everyone should have the opportunity to live life abundantly.
During the week, members:
Four churches have joined forces to offer VBS in our community: First Baptist Church, Warren's Grove Methodist Church, Church of Latter Day Saints, and Roxboro Presbyterian Church. Kids from the local area were invited and a van was provided to assist with transportation.
The kids and adults enjoyed dinner each night, along with music, games, art, and a Bible lesson!
Saturday was a good day for road side clean up in Roxboro! Several RPC members got together to help clean up the area.
