RPC Members Travel to Asheville for Mission Work

7/26/2018

Five youth and six adults from Roxboro Presbyterian Church joined Asheville Youth Mission to serve the community, learn from one another, and agree that everyone should have the opportunity to live life abundantly.

During the week, members:
  • Weeded garden beds and dug potatoes ... this food would be sold at a "pay as you can" farmer's market (Lord's Acre)
  • Built shelves for a new warehouse and helped organized items that were donated to those getting new homes (Homeward Bound)
  • Participated in Bible Study with people from all walks of life (Church of the Advocate)
  • Walked through Downtown Asheville with snacks and water, talking to those we met and leaving positive messages in the park (Church of the Advocate)
  • Built dressers for female Veterans and women in need of a safe place to live (Stedfast Home)
  • Prepared meals and cleaned the kitchen space (Stedfast Home)
  • Spent time with people - handed out popsicles, played games, talked, and learned (Haywood Street)
  • Participated in an interactive service where we took communion with people in various situations (Haywood Street)
  • Learned about the many services offered to the folks of Asheville who may be experiencing homelessness (Haywood Street)
Here are just a few photos... we hope you'll ask the members who traveled more about their experience. They include: Evan Walker, Mark Harrill, Laura Dallas, Jodi DeVillier, Kim Rand, Beth Townsend, Maggie Rand, Olivia Townsend, Cole Dallas, Cameron Dallas, and John Montegue.
