Questions of Identity
Names are powerful. Labels can build up or destroy. Jesus asks us how we identify ourselves and others, while acknowledging that he knows who we truly are and loves us anyway.
Mark 5:9 "What is your name?"
Matthew 12:48 "Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?"
Matthew 22:20 "Whose image and inscription does it have on it?"
John 3:10 "You are a teacher of Israel and you do no know these things?
Questions of Compassion
Some of Jesus' questions cause us to look beyond ourselves and see the needs of those around us.
Mark 8:23 "Do you see anything?"
Luke 6:39 "A blind person can't lead another blind person, right? Won't the both fall into a ditch?"
Luke 7:44 "Do you see this woman?"
Matthew 26:10 "Why do you make trouble for her?"
John 8:10 "Woman, where are they? Is there no one to condemn you?"
