Introduction from your Interim Pastor

1/7/2021

Hello Roxboro Presbyterian Church Members and Friends
Happy New Year to you all!  My name is Barbara Hager, and I am your new interim minister.  I moved into the manse just a few days before Christmas and am still getting settled in.  My little “family” is just me and my cat Max, and we are finding the Manse very comfortable.  I am from Connecticut so please be patient with me as I get used to the “North Carolina” way of doing things!  One thing I have noticed is you are all very hospitable and friendly.
One thing you should know about me was I have had two careers.  I was a solo pastor at churches in Minnesota and Pennsylvania.  Then for the last twenty years or so I have been a practicing lawyer!  Besides representing homeowner associations, I did some legal work for the church including serving on the presbytery Permanent Judicial Commission in Southern New England.  That is the Presbyterian church’s court.
I retired from the law a few years ago and found God calling me back to service in the church.  I am very happy to be here with you all!
Over the next year (I have a year contract with the session on behalf of the church, renewable for 6 month periods thereafter) I will be working with you all and  the session to discover together where we are as a church and arising from that discovery, what sort of permanent minister we want to call.  Under my contract and Presbyterian rules, I cannot be your permanent minister – but I will help you find the next permanent minister who is just right for you.
With COVID it will be a little harder to get to know each of you individually, but I will do my best.  I love visiting and will be making telephone calls and visiting in person (socially distanced, mask wearing of course) where you would like that.  Please feel free to contact me through the church office and let me know if you would like me to telephone, meet in person, or both.  We can meet at your home or in the pastor’s office at church.  I take COVID seriously so at your home, if you only feel comfortable meeting at your front door that is just fine.
I look forward to getting to know you all!
In Christ,
Barbara Hager
